My Review Policy

The focus of my blog is to review and develop a list of high quality picture books that teachers can use as mentor texts to teach specific genres and strategies in Reading Workshop and Writing Workshop.  It is truly a labor of love.  Much of my career as an educator has been to support teachers in their literacy work.  As I begin a new chapter at the end of my  literacy coaching career, this is my effort to continue that support for incredibly hard working teachers.

I will be happy to accept picture books (only) for potential review as mentor texts from publishers. Please email me at: roundrock54@gmail.com

I will only post a review on my blog if I see strong potential in the book for use as a mentor text in Reading and Writing Workshop.

I will consider reviewing picture books in these genres:
Fiction-including: contemporary realistic fiction, historical fiction, traditional literature and modern fantasy

Non-fiction-including: memoir, narrative non-fiction, expository non-fiction, procedural texts, persuasive texts, biography

Poetry

Hybrid Text

I will only review books that have been published and that teachers can get their hands on immediately.  I will not review self-published books.

Thank you for considering me.

  1. Hi Patty. I stumbled upon this GEM while doing research for a paper that I am writing on Reading Workshop for a class that I am currently taking. I CANNOT wait to share this with our literacy coach and teachers. THANK YOU, THANK YOU & THANK YOU for all of your hard work in putting this together. :)
